BIOGRAPHY:
The Captain and the Kid started out as a two-man band with Jamey “Top Gone” Taylor playing rhythm guitar and singing and Top Gone’s son, J.J. Taylor, playing lead
guitar and singing. The Captain and the Kid quickly gained local fame around the Westville, Oklahoma area by playing some charity events, parties, and local clubs. It wasn’t until they expanded to venues like Iguana Cafeé in Tahlequah,
Oklahoma and world famous Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa,
Oklahoma that The Captain and the Kid realized their true potential. J.J. runs Highway 62 Records in Tahlequah where he immediately started recording The Captain and the Kid’s
demo CD when the song-writing was finished. The demo is titled simply: “THE
CAPTAIN AND THE KID.” Once
the demo CD took off, fans started asking questions like, “When are you putting out a new CD?” and “Where
can I buy a copy of your demo?” and The Captain and the Kid set to work on a new CD entitled “A MIDWEST ISLAND.” They brought some new musicians in on this compilation: Felicia Taylor on bass guitar,
flute, and vocals; Tristan Taylor on drums, percussion, and backing vocals; and Ashlee Wing of the band: Infinite Sound Supply
on bass guitar and backing vocals. On the CD, J.J. also plays the keyboard. Tristan is Top Gone’s youngest son and Felicia is Top Gone’s daughter
making The Captain and the Kid’s latest CD a family project as well as making The Captain and the kid a family band. The Captain and the Kid’s original music has a Cowboy-Reggae/ Rock/ Americana feel to it. The
music has been called “A little bit of something everyone can enjoy, no matter your likes or dislikes...” by Camvall
Entertainment.
MEET THE BAND:
The Captain and the Kid can be seen performing live with the following lineup: Jamey “Top Gone” Taylor-
rhythm guitar, vocals, percussion; J.J. Taylor- lead guitar, vocals, keyboard; Felicia Taylor- vocals, bass guitar, flute;
and Tristan Taylor- drums, percussion, backing vocals. Together, these four talented
musicians/singer-songwriters, who are also all family, make up the legendary band: The Captain and the Kid! Their different influences and musical backgrounds give them the ability to write and perform like no other
band around! Tristan is strongly influenced by the likes of Van Halen, Green
Day, Blink-182, Nirvana, and Metallica. Felicia is big on The Rolling Stones,
Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, The Beatles, Journey, and John Lennon. Top Gone
gets a lot of his sound from Eagles, America, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffett, and Creedence Clearwater Revival whereas J.J. is
really into Cross Canadian Ragweed, Van Halen, Brad Paisley, Eagles, Kansas, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. You mix all of these together, and you’ve got one hellacious party on your hands.
VENUES PLAYED:
The Captain and the Kid has also been known to bring guests on stage with them including Clay Taylor, Billy Cochran
(formerly of Opposites Attract), and Ashlee Wing of Infinite Sound Supply. The
Captain and the Kid has played many venues including Brewdogs Bar, Scooter’s Music Tavern, and Iguana Cafeé, all in
Tahlequah, Oklahoma,
Westville FCCLA Family Fest, in Westville, Oklahoma,
Dogwood Festival in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Cain’s
Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the LA-Z-BOY company picnic at Lokomtion in Fayetteville,
Arkansas. More venues can be named
